Okay, this one’s a doozie. Since my last update, much has been added. Of course this is what this post is about. This post is both what have been added and what are in the progress of being added.

  • A Forge System. In the near future, weapons and armor can be made from materials, gained from quests or drops. In addition, materials can be derived from others (ex. 2 Iron Ore = 1 Iron Plate) and so on.
    • Many new items have been created, most of which are materials for the above and below Systems.
  • An Enchant System. So far, only the bare-bones exists. Later, weapons (say the Iron Sword) can be enchanted with a gemstone (Garnet) to yield the weapon with new elemental abilities (Fire element added). Of course, weapons that already have an element cannot gain another.
  • An Ammunition System. Spoiler here. Two new characters (backgrounds and names unknown) will wield a Bow and the other a set of Pistols. Their ammunition can be crafted at the Forge or bought/found in either rare or expensive circumstances.
  • New Areas/Continued Story. The farthest one could get in v0.1 BETA was perhaps the entrance of Haigashi Capital. Now it progresses a bit further, however there are still some missing parts. For example, a cutscene is missing in the castle (because I need NPC’s).
    • Music. More music has been added to previously quiet areas, like the Sewers, Castle and Capital.
    • Two characters have been drafted and another is just about to be implemented.
  • Glitches/Bugs Squashed. Many of the bugs in the opening area were fixed, however at least one remains.
  • New Scripts. Some scripts that have been added or changed are: Fal_map_name (By: Falco), Fal-Fog (By: Falco), Conditional Skills And Equipment (By: Syvkal), Advanced Craftung System (By: cmpsr2000), Disposable Ammunition (By: cmpsr2000).

I’m quite sure that is everything. Screenies in the morning anyone? Please note that many of the updates aren’t currently visible nor fully implemented (hence not moving up to v0.2).

Fishii Out

A very BETA-y version of Tales of Gaia is available from my DeviantArt account. Link below.

This version is missing a helluva lot of the Database information (ie. attack animations, stats, monsters, armors, weapons, items), you name it, its probably not there…

Anyways… without further adeau, the link:

Okay, here is my dilemma. Should I use the original RTP tilesets (TOP) or the Coming of Age Day tilesets (BOTTOM). If I were to go with the bottom, there aren’t that many flooring tiles (like tiles or wood. No stone and so on), or dungeon tiles. If anyone could recommend a better more complete tileset that looks as good (or even better than) the CoAD tiles, that would be amazing.

Here are a few screenshots of the early section of the game (Beware, they are quite large and there is quite a lot of them):

Remember, these images are early stage, so they are not final.

I just realized that I didn’t change Ulrika to Chloe yet. That’s it for now.

‘Till next time. Fishii Out!

Here we go the first post of a few today. I’m separating them for the sake of cleanliness. This one will deal with the basic information: story, characters etc.

Please note that: 1) This is a Tales of game so it will resemble the series in many ways, such as Tech/Arte names, plot, puzzles etc. 2) Because of this there will be MANY cliches. 3) Most of the names, maps, and even the plot are not final, this will sometimes be expressed as [—] (eg. Marie [—] means there is no decided last name). 4) Most of the graphics (monsters, portraits and sprites) may not be final.

Prologue

The World was at war! The neighbouring Empires of Haigashi and Urimawa clashed in a great flurry of sparks, flame, and blood. The
battles between the two empires dated back to the Dawn of Man. Children were born and grew up learning a deep hatred for their neighbouring land. All to be swept away in just ‘another battle’ between the two.

“For what reason were they fighting?” a child would ask his mother. She would respond, just like everyone else would, “Just because. It has always been like that.”

As the child grew, he learned of the real reason…

One day, the child, now a young man, set off on a journey; a quest to stop the fighting between the two Empires.

A truce was made and the battles stopped. The two tired countries heaved a sigh of relief and started rebuilding. Trade flurished between them and both countries grew wealthier…

Then came a great discovery by the same man who brought peace between the two countries. The discovery
was that of a new power, Mana.

Mana, a mysterious force, emanated from every being, be it a flower or a great beast. Before long, both Empires
delved into the new source, mostly to power their new machines.

New machines were crafted, absorbing Mana out of the very air.

At least… there was peace now…

Characters

This section is devoid of spoilers. This includes major characters that appear later in the game.

Name: Trace Guardia   |   Age: 18   |  Hair Colour: Blond  |   Weapon of Choice: Sword

Attitude: Usually a very optimistic person, Trace finds common ground for people; the stereotypical Idealist character. He will do anything to ensure the safety of his friends, even if it means sacrificing his own health.

Name: [—] [—]   |   Age 18   |   Hair Colour: Red   |   Weapon of Choice: Staff (Elemental Magic)

Attitude: Very silent and reserved, usually keeping his comments to either himself or his best friend Trace. They have been friends since “they were babies”. He is also quite intelligent, however his knowledge is mysterious to many. Sometimes he may act as a leader in tough situations. He essentially acts as Trace’s brain, countreacting his sometimes rash decisions.

Name: Chloe [—]   |   Age: Unknown   |   Hair Colour: Blue  |  Weapon of Choice: Rod (Healing Magic)

Attitude: Found in the woods, fending off a pair of wolves, Chloe resented Trace having to interfere. She is very kind however she doesn’t disclose much of any information. Her background is completely unknown.

Gameplay/Features

So far, the game is still in its early stages so I cannot say too much here. However, can say the following:

The game style is very classicly oriented. Battles are random on the World Map. The puzzles are seemingly simple as the battles are quite simple. Nothing out of the ordinary as of yet.

In the future, I will be adding (rather fixing) a Forge to make and upgrade weapons, armor and the like, a Bank to store money and appraise certain items, a Training Centre for whatever purpose, a Guild for quests (to aid in the gathering of Materials to forge armor and weapons out of) and other services.

I also plan to implement a minimap that can be shown and hidden at any time (in select maps).

That’s all for this post. Stay tuned! Fishii Out!
